What is the legacy you want to leave behind?
A lasting legacy extends beyond mere wealth or fame; it is rooted in the positive influence one exerts on others and the memories one fosters. It entails leaving a world that is marginally better than the one we inherited. A meaningful legacy may encompass imparting ones values, beliefs, or life lessons to loved ones or supporting a cause on3 is passionate about. Ultimately, it centers on making a tangible difference that aligns with ones own sense of purpose and leaves a lasting imprint on the world.
“Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased”
~ Maya Angelou
Where do I start?
If you’re like me and you’re scratching your head, trying to figure out where to start these ideas may help.
- Positive Impact – Focus on the ripple effect of your actions and decisions. Each of our actions and decisions comes with consequences in which effect those close to us. Consider how you have helped others or inspired them.
- Values and Beliefs – What principles do you live by? What values do you want to pass on to future generations? Keep in mind the examples you set.
- Memories and Relationships – The relationships you build, the stories you share, and the memories you create with loved ones all contribute to your legacy.
- Contribution to a cause – Consider what’s important to you and how you can contribute to a cause that aligns with your values. This could be through philanthropy , volunteering, or creating something that leaves a lasting mark on the world.
- Personal Legacy – This encompasses your life story, lessons learned, and the impact you’ve had on people around you.
- Tangible Legacy – While not the sole focus, this can include leaving behind financial assests, a family business, or other property.
